Red Wagon Creamery
55 West Broadway – Eugene, OR
$1.75

It has been a long time since I ate a cookie good enough to talk about.

But I finally did. Last week. In my hometown. Not at a bakery, even. But at an ice cream joint called Red Wagon Creamery. They make very good ice cream*, but whomever they’ve got in charge of the cookies is no dummy, either.

I’m actually a little shocked that I’ve never thought of this before. I mean, it’s my two favorite cookies – oatmeal raisin and ginger molasses – together as one. So obvious. Why isn’t this a thing? It should be.

To begin with, it’s just a good goddamned ginger cookie on its own- deeply molassessed and adequately salted. But that’s not where this story ends; the cookie maker at the creamery went ahead and added oats and plump raisins and craisins – and then mercifully took it out of the oven in time. Perfectly under baked.

I really love this cookie. And I will probably steal their idea.

But that doesn’t mean I won’t buy another one the next time I’m home.

*yes, it’s good ice cream. But when in Eugene, it’s THIS PLACE or bust. I’d lose my hometown cred if didn’t mention this.
